The comedy juggernaut Moontower Festival came to town with its laughter filled programming. Whether you were there for the comedy circuit main stays that provide tear filled laughs or fresh new comers on the rise proving they can entertain with the best, there was plenty of comedy for all. Perhaps the best part about the comedy festival are the myriad formats that comedy is presented in, from the annual Sklar Brothers ping pong tournament, numerous pod cast tapings, monologues, musical concert performance, and more. We were incredibly lucky that Weird Al added a stop at the festival on his “Ridiculously Self-Indulgent Ill-advised Vanity” tour with Emo Philips opening, Tiffany Haddish had a headlining night at the Paramount that had the audience participating and laughing, and Scott Thompson of The Kids In the Hall reprised his Buddy Thompson persona and reminded us of the troupe’s groundbreaking performances. Perhaps one of the most notable differences this year were the amount of sketches that were politically focused, which saw the inclusion of Friday’s headlining event “An Evening for the Comedy Resistance starring Davis Cross, Maria Bamford, Ted Leo, and Friends!” Several of those comedians were out and about during the day assisting people get signed up at Voter Registration events. The festival is ever evolving, but comedy is always the main draw and never disappoints.
