Austin, Texas – Paramount Theatre

This was my first ever Gregory Alan Isakov show and it won’t be my last. Austin was the final stop on the “An Intimate Evening with Gregory Alan Isakov” tour and what a treat it was to be a part of it. From the lighting to the crowd, everything felt so warm and comfortable, like a blanket fresh out the dryer. This show will forever hold a special place in my heart.
The concert was billed “An Intimate Evening with Gregory Alan Isakov,” every detail was executed with beautiful intention. As a concert-goer, I’m used to these crazy light rigs and having the music blasting into my ear drums, but this was a welcomed change. The venue, The Paramount Theatre, was barely lit up, creating the impression of it just being you and Isakov. Also not to sound like that person, but it was such a plus that no one near me was on their phone. At moments, I totally forgot that there were other people watching with me. I can not express how flawless this set design paired with his music.
The setlist that was performed couldn’t have been better. Isakov welcomed his friend Steve Varney to join along with a few songs and the two made an amazing impression when they finished. Later into the show, Ilan Isakov, his brother, came on stage and it was so heartwarming to see the two brothers doing what they love. The trio later came onto the staged and delivered a powerful encore to end this tour.
I can’t express how perfect this show was to me. Isakov didn’t just awe us with his music– he also captivated us with his charm. When he wasn’t performing, he had the whole crowd laughing and entertained. To say I’m lucky to have experienced this show is an understatement. Do yourself a favor and go see him live when he goes through your town.
