Caroline Polachek welcomed us to her island at ACL Live with an amazing set on her tour for her second album, “Desire, I Want to Turn Into You.” The show encapsulated everything that Caroline embodies; an alt pop eclectic sensibility full of range, from shoe gaze to ‘scorny’ (a new genre Caroline laid claim to inventing – scary and horny), new wave to RnB. Through Caroline’s beautiful vocals and her amazing band, each song gave an air of mystery and otherworldliness, with the stage set incorporating a giant volcano with a huge screen backdrop that changed between songs. During Sunset, which had a flamenco sound, she hand clapped to the beat with the audience following along enthusiastically. Her work with a multitude of artists, from Beyonce to Charli XCX to PC Music, has contributed to her unique sound with a constant throughout the show being the control of her voice, effortlessly hitting the notes and holding them.
