Kim Petras is no stranger to performing on large stages, but the Feed the Beast tour is a statement piece that catapults her into the next level.
I knew it was going to be big, how could it not be? This is the tour for her debut album, but she’s released a whole litany of music for years now (several EPs and mix tapes and tons of singles) with numerous tours completed. Even with that expectation and having seen her perform three times already, I was not prepared for what was to come. When the show started and the huge black curtain that hid the stage was pulled down by two hooded figures –I realized I was in for a ride. Immediately it was easy to see there was a monstrous amount of time, energy, and money put into the production. A sparkling iron maiden slowly rose up from the stage(medieval torture chamber device) and opened up to reveal Kim wearing a metal mask and armor on her right arm.
The setlist was massive, broken into five acts with over thirty songs. It had everything, showcasing her versatility as a popstar: from the bubblegum pop Hillside Boys with an acoustic intro to the slut pop anthem Treat Me Like a Ho, the encore power pop ballad Heart To Break, hyper pop bopper Castle in the Sky, and everything in between. She had three backup dancers, and the amount of choreography for the show was astounding. Perhaps the best thing about the stage was the multitude of areas with a built-in rotating platform, including a rotating circular bed that was brought out later on during the show.
The best was saved for last during the start of the encore when a shiny disco ball was seemingly sitting on the floor at the back of the stage that rose up to reveal it was just the tip of an eight to ten-foot disco ball dick. The only thing missing, in my humble opinion, was the inclusion of Malibu and Coconuts in the setlist.
