Mobley is perhaps one of the most talented acts from Austin in recent years, and he was one of the must see acts of the Hot Summer Nights three day music series this summer. It was hard to tell if people were sweating due to the sweltering summer heat at the outside stage of the Mohawk or if it was due to the non stop dancing going on in the crowd. The first thing noticed when the set started was Mobley’s crystal clear full voice and range. If that wasn’t enough to grab the crowd’s attention, you quickly noticed that this is a one man band where he does it all: playing the guitar while singing, playing the keys while singing, and drumming while singing in perfect synchronicity. There are plenty of one person shows, but few that are so seamlessly composed, it’s beyond unbelievable. If you dive in deeper, you notice the lyrics, the socio political statements striving to shake us up from our complacent, you notice the James Baldwin t shirt he’s wearing and the bullhorn Mobley sings through stressing the strength of the notes and the message. What an amazing show and performance, hoping y’all get to catch him for the first time or again soon!
