While SXSW has been over for a few weeks, that didn’t stop Panic! At The Disco from performing a last minute pop up show in the intimate 3Ten venue in Austin for hardcore fans. The show was announced the morning of the show, fans flocked to the box office of the venue and waited in line for roughly two hours to purchase a non-transferable ticket. All the ticket were doled out and purchased roughly by 4 pm, but the hardcore fans went and lined up immediately at the venue after purchasing tickets to ensure front row center spots at the show later that night. When a band that regularly sells out stadiums, a once in a lifetime opportunity like this warrants much excitement.
Normally pop up shows are a bit shorter, but the band went through a nineteen song set that ranged over several albums and thrilled the crowd. Not only does front man Brendon Urie have an amazing four octave vocal range with a falsetto that arguably surpasses Justin Timberlake, he is captivating on stage. He interacted with the audience between songs, noting how amazing Austin was that people walking by outside were able to stop and hear the show from the sidewalk and said hi to them. After another song, he noticed a fan’s sign that said “I lost my job to be here” and asked them “Holy shit, is that for real?” and jokingly replied tongue in cheek “That’s stupid!” You can tell the stage isn’t where he does his job, it’s where he belongs and is at home, flipping his gold microphone in hand as he entertains. Austin continues to spoil us musically, even after SXSW.
