Living in Austin, we get spoiled quite often, but what a treat it was for The Front Bottoms to kick off their “Road to the Champagne Jam 2022 Tour” at Emo’s. The band core consists of Brian Sella on vocals/electric acoustic guitar and drummer Matt Uychich with other band members varying when touring. On this tour, they were joined by members on keys, electric guitar, and bass. The show was riveting from start to finish, with songs that ranged from folk-punk to indie rock and the live debut of “new song d.” The songs ranged from punk thrashy to dancey to somber with masterful ease with Sella at the helm with songs evoking different emotions that seemed to connect everyone in attendance. It’s hard to tell which songs the crowd loved best as they sang along to every song, but it’s very likely Twin Size Mattress, Peace Sign, or West Virginia. The set was longer than the past two Austin shows with 22 songs with an encore that started apropos with the final firework of summer “Grand Finale.”
