When seeing a band that’s been around for three and a half decades, it’s a treat and a surprise to see what will be played. While some bands worry about playing their hits early in the set, Violent Femmes jumped started their show with Blister in The Sun to get the audience into a dancing frenzy. A few songs later, they reminded us of the versatility of their sound and broke into a jamboree with A Country Death Song. While they span a few genres, their consistent backing sound with Gordon Gano’s distinct nasal vocals with amazing vibrato control and jangly steel strings serve to punctuate amazing narratives that are condensed into musical notation.
